There are many reasons to be critical of McCain’s pick. Palin is even more inexperienced than Obama. She’s likely going to get eaten alive during the VP debates. Some independents might look at McCain’s argument for experience and wonder why he’d leave a young governor with only two years at the helm of the state of Alaska as his back-up in the event anything happened to him. (He’s 72. I think we’ll all agree that this is not an entirely unlikely scenario.)

It’s fairly obvious the only experience Palin has that McCain would want is her 44 years as a female, and he’s making a grab for the disenfranchised Hillary vote. As a woman, I personally am insulted that he selected a female running mate simply because she has a vagina and not because of any particular proven leadership ability, and he thinks by doing so he can manipulate the female vote. I’m sure a lot of people will fall for it, too, but I think it illustrates that he has a pretty reductive view of women if he thinks we’ll all be persuaded by something as menial as having a lady on the ticket.
